G.A.I.T. stands for "Genuine Alternative in Therapy" and is a Federal Non-Profit 501(c)(3) Charitable organization. G.A.I.T.'s mission is, "To improve the quality of life of children and adults with special needs resulting in a more independent life in society." G.A.I.T. offers several services--all of them using the horse--to accomplish this mission.

Who Benefits From Our Services?

Children and adults from 2 to 80 years old with disabilities including: Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation, Developmental Delays, Head Trauma, Spina Bifida, Multiple Sclerosis, Attention Deficit Disorder(ADD), Prader Willi Syndrom, Down Syndrom, and others.

Our services include the following:

Therapeutic Riding (TR)

Therapeutic Riding focuses on riders in a group setting to improve balance, posture, trunk control, sensory processing, communication skills, and socialization.

Hippotherapy (HPOT)

Hippotherapy allows licensed, credentialed therapists (Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech/Language Pathologists) to use the multi-dimensional movement of the horse to improve neurolgoical function and sensory processing in the rider.

Equine Assisted Learning (EAL)

Equine Assisted Learning is conducted by certified equine professionals. Activities using un-tethered horses offer experiential communication (or better communication skills relating to or resulting from actual experience), teambuilding and self-discovery to groups of people.

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP)

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy teams a mental health professional with an experienced horse professional to offer therapeutic and experiential sessions to clients.

Vocational training opportunities abound at a horse stable and in an office setting. Stall-cleaning, horse feeding, and computer data entry are taught to help them transition to other jo sites and work opportunities.
